Why MCT?

When taste should distract as little as possible

MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides. Within a CBD product, MCT functions as a carrier oil and enables a ready-to-use liquid formulation. We carefully select the CBD formulation and carrier oil for each product range. Read the product information and choose the variant intended for your pet.

The neutral taste can help when an animal refuses salmon or hemp seed oil. MCT is also often chosen when fish is consciously avoided, for example in the case of a known or suspected food problem.

Practical benefits of our MCT carrier oil

Little pronounced taste

A less pronounced taste and odor can make daily administration easier for fussy animals.

A carrier oil without fish

When wild Alaskan salmon oil does not fit the diet, an available MCT variety can be a practical alternative.

Attuning to the animal

We do not simply call MCT hypoallergenic. Check source, full ingredients and individual sensitivities per product.

Our choice of raw materials

Pure C8 from organic coconuts

For our CBD products with MCT, we only use 100% pure C8-MCT oil of grade A from organic coconuts. This oil is GMO-free and solvent-free. We consciously choose this quality when selecting our carrier oil.

C8 refers to caprylic acid, a medium-chain fatty acid with eight carbon atoms. In our MCT oil, this fatty acid is present in triglyceride form. Our carrier oil is therefore pure C8-MCT and not a mixture of different MCT chain lengths. The designation MCT tells you which type of fat the oil contains. Our choice of organic raw materials and the grade A description describe which MCT oil we use. Together with the CBD raw material, composition and batch registration, this choice forms the basis of our product.

More than a neutral taste

What can MCT do for pets?

A usable energy source

MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides. These fats are processed differently than long-chain fats and can contribute to the formation of ketones in the liver. Ketones can be used by the brain, among other things, as an alternative energy source.

Research into cognitive functions in older dogs

In a study in older dogs, a diet containing 5.5% MCT led to better performance on various learning tasks. This makes MCT interesting in nutritional science surrounding aging dogs.

The research involved an adapted daily diet. It does not show that a few drops of our CBD oil give the same effects. The research also proves no specific effect of our pure C8 formulation. The type of MCT used, the amount, the overall diet and the individual dog partly determine the meaning of these results.

Practical when choosing a carrier oil

The mild taste and smell can make administration easier. MCT is also a carrier oil without fish and can therefore be an alternative when a salmon oil variant does not suit the diet. Always check the full ingredients.

The animal group remains decisive

Research in dogs cannot simply be translated to cats, rabbits, rodents or birds. Use the variant for the correct animal group. Extra MCT in addition to the usual diet requires a separate consideration; larger quantities may affect stool and food acceptance.

Administer without eating a full meal

Preferably give the measured oil with a small amount of suitable and familiar food that is completely eaten. If that doesn't work, the oil can be given directly into the mouth. Do not mix it directly with a full meal: if the animal does not eat it all, it remains unknown how much has been ingested.

The special Gold composition in the cat bottles

Our CBD oil for cats is available in two variants: wild Alaskan salmon oil and 100% pure organic C8-MCT oil. Through a special production process, we make Gold for cats without terpenes. We use this formulation in both cat variants: CBD with wild Alaskan salmon oil and CBD with organic C8-MCT. There is no separate Gold product line for cats.

Frequently asked questions about CBD with MCT

Which MCT oil do you use?

We only use 100% pure C8-MCT oil of grade A from organic coconuts. This carrier oil is GMO-free and solvent-free.

What benefits does MCT have besides the taste?

MCT is an energy source and is being investigated for its role in ketones and cognitive function in older dogs. The results of nutritional research do not automatically apply to a few drops of CBD oil. Furthermore, pure C8-MCT differs from the MCT mixtures that may have been used in studies.

Does MCT have a strong taste?

MCT is generally more neutral in taste and odor than hemp seed oil or wild Alaskan salmon oil.

Is MCT intended for animals with allergies?

MCT is practically chosen when avoiding fish or a pronounced carrier oil, but should not automatically be considered hypoallergenic.

Is MCT better than wild Alaskan salmon oil?

No. MCT is more neutral; Wild Alaskan salmon oil actually has a more attractive taste for many animals and contains its own fatty acids. The choice depends on the animal and diet.

What strengths are available?

This varies per animal group and current product line. The product page in the webshop lists the exact available variants.

Choose the formulation that suits your pet

A comfortable choice starts with understanding the differences. The carrier oil contributes to smell and taste and can influence how easily the oil fits into your daily routine. The CBD formulation and product strength are explained separately in the product information. Start with your pet’s range and compare the variants available there. Both carrier oil variants for cats use our special Gold formulation without terpenes. The shop shows current options and prices so you can order with the information you need.
