Three oils that are often confused
CBD oil, hemp seed oil or cannabis oil?
They can all be associated with cannabis or hemp, but differ greatly in raw material, cannabinoids, effect and legal status.
Oil with measured CBD
CBD oil consists of a CBD-containing raw material in a carrier oil, such as hemp seed oil, MCT oil or wild Alaskan salmon oil. We carefully select the CBD formulation and carrier oil for each product range. Read the product information and choose the variant intended for your pet. CBD does not cause the buzz that comes with THC.
Oil from the seeds
Hemp seed oil is a nutritional oil. It is not the same as a CBD extract and does not automatically contain the measured amount of CBD that is stated on a CBD product.
Usually THC-containing cannabis oil
“Cannabis oil” usually means an extract of THC-rich cannabis dissolved in oil. THC is intoxicating and can be harmful to animals.
Extra important for animals
Never simply give THC-containing cannabis oil
Animals can become seriously ill after exposure to THC. Think of lethargy, staggering, urine loss, dilated pupils, vomiting, trembling or extreme restlessness.
If possible ingestion, contact a veterinarian immediately and be honest about which product and how much may have been ingested. Do not wait or look for a solution in extra CBD.
Legality in the Netherlands
“Weed oil is illegal” requires nuance
Cannabis and THC fall under the Opium Act. Homemade cannabis oil containing THC or sold through an unclear channel is not the same as a regular CBD product and may fall outside the legal chain.
There is also standardized medicinal cannabis oil that is prepared for people by prescription by certain pharmacies. That does not make any online or homemade THC product legal, controlled or suitable for an animal.
How do you avoid confusion?
Read cannabinoids separately
Check how much CBD and THC were actually measured. Don't rely solely on a cannabis leaf or the words "pure" and "natural."
Check the target
Only use a product that is clearly formulated and labelled for the relevant animal group.
Request traceability
A report must belong to the batch used. A random certificate on a general website is insufficient.
Frequently asked questions
Does CBD make an animal high?
CBD does not have the intoxicating effect of THC. However, an unclear or contaminated product may contain other substances; therefore composition and batch control are important.
Is hemp seed oil CBD oil?
No. Hemp seed oil can be used as a carrier oil, but is not the CBD-containing hemp extract itself. In standard Gold, 100% full-spectrum hemp extract is added to the hemp seed oil. Through a special production process, we make Gold for cats without terpenes. We use this formulation in both cat variants: CBD with wild Alaskan salmon oil and CBD with organic C8-MCT.
Can I give cannabis oil for humans to my animal?
No, not on my own initiative. THC can be toxic to animals. If you have any medicinal questions, please contact a veterinarian.
Is every product with “0% THC” reliable?
A text on the label is only convincing when the composition, producer, batch and relevant analysis data can be verified.
